Ever since I got the Qtec 650W PSU the wiring in my pc case has been a mess
I finally had enough when I was reviewing the Zalman VF700-Cu and I ran into the problems with the cooler, which meant that I had to keep removing my Geforce 6600 from the case.
So while checking out Kustom PC's web site I came across the ACRyan MORF+ PSU Modding Kit. On the site they have a choice of black, blue, green and red.
The package arrived the following day of dispatch; it came well packaged in a bubble wrap envelope. Once I opened the bubble wrap envelope I preceded to open the plastic casing containing all the parts, at this point the plastic sprang open sending all the innards every where. I spent the next ten minutes trying to find all the bits.
Here’s what you get in the ACRyan MORF™ kit
| -4 types sleeving (2mm x 3.3, 6mm x 3.3m, 12mm x 1.6m, 13mm x 1.6m) - 3 types heatshrink (10mm x 30cm, 20mm x 30cm, 25mm x 15cm) - 10x Molex4pin Female Connectx - 3x Floppy power Female Connectx - 1x ATX20pin female Connectx - 1xP4-12V 4pin Female Connectx - 1x AUX6pin Female Connectx - 10x Tie-wrap - 1x Toolx Pin Remover Molex Universal - 1x Toolx Pin Remover ATX / P4-12V Female |
The night before I planned to install the ACRyan kit I remove the power cord from the PSU and pushed the on/off switch a few times, remember that the capacitors, etc in the PSU will still have some current in so I advise disconnecting it at least eight hour before any mods are done to the PSU. The following morning I removed the PSU from my case, I then proceeded to measure out the lengths of sleeving that I needed. At this point I could say “this is how you do it†but it all comes down to how you want to do it, the way you feel comfortable with.
I pulled the sleeving into place and then cut a small piece of heatshrink tubing for each end; using my wife’s hair dryer I then heated the heatshrink tubing. At this point I ran into some trouble, I had one son not at school due to illness and my two year old bouncing off the wall as usual and on the piece of hair dryer action I was distracted resulting in burnt finger tips on one hand. This lead to me finding it hard to carry on with the job, I couldn’t stop and carry on another day as I had other thing to do the rest of the week so I carried on. I must also apology for the lack of photos of this review; my two year old really wanted to help me so I got to the job before he could really get involved.
With the burn fingers and two sons around I must admit that I made a bit of a hash of it and I sure if I had the time and peace I would have made a perfect job of it. It still looks great though and I think it’s well worth the effort.
The only draw back with the kit is that there are no male Molex plugs included, due to the amount of stuff I have in my case, the size of my case and the lack of Molex connections on the PSU I have to use extensions. I could have really done with four male Molex plugs
I give the ACRyan MORF+ PSU Modding Kit a 9 out of 10
