Running programs that need admin rights as normal user.

Running programs that need admin rights as normal user.

I've got a old 133MHz laptop that I wanted to run on my wireless network so while at Tesco one day I picked up one of their MicraDigital Pcmcia wireless cards. MicraDigital is own by Belkin so I thought it was going to be a good product with working software but I was wrong, due to lazy programing the wireless network management software wouldn't save/run the details need to join my network. Every time someone with just a user account logged into the laptop they would have to put all the details in (13 character key, channel, etc).

So off I went to find and answer to my problems, this guide is for a MicraDigital cardbus adapter's software, I'm sure it will work for other software that has this trouble but I do not have any other to hand to test, please feel free to point some out and I will try it to see.

After a lot of google and poking around my system I finally found an answer and now means that my family can use the laptop without calling me to get it joined to the network.

Disclaimer: The Hardware Squad or I are not responsible for any damage cause while trying this!

Step one is installing the software as an admin, just in case you've un-installed it, and step it up, saving it to a profile.

Then go to you hard drive, program files and find the folder name the software is installed under. MicraDigitals wireless cardbus adapter is NOBRAND

Then fire up Regedit ( Start>Run )

If it's not MicraDigital software you trying to sort out then use the search function in Regedit
( Edit> Find ).

The first key you need to change is under HKEY_CURRENT_USER shown in the picture below

Now right click on the NOBRAND folder and then left click on Permissions

You will then get this pop up

Now hit add and add all the user names on the system to it making sure they have ticks in Full Control and Read or add the group the users are under.

Then go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and do the same as above

I hope this help some of you out, I didn't want to give my kids admin rights to the laptop as I know after a few goes on the laptop it would be unusable. I feel that I shouldn't have to do this type of thing and if the developer had spent a little more time on the software it would be done while installing the software.
